How do BOSE Acoustimass speakers and home theater systems really compare to high quality speakers like Polk Audio?

I'm in the market for a new home theater system, and am exploring alternatives. I've always wondered whether BOSE systems are really any better (technically) or if they are just good at marketing.

Well, I can only speak to my experience here - and I would say I am not an audiophile I just like good, clean sound. I have a Bose Home theater - the Acoutimass 6 - my price was 580 for that. I can't tell you how much I like it - we have watched a ton of great movies with seriously good sound - Lord of the Rings is a good example - and you can't tell the difference from a good theater. Now, I haven't compared to Polk Audio - but I have compared to my friend's systems and I like mine better
