HD quality on broadcast channels

I have noticed that some HD broadcasts don't look that good any more.  Are they compressing the signal?  When I buy the same content from Apple, the quality is much better.

I don't know about the compressions, but the HD from Apple looks better than most of what I can get over-the-air.

I just heard they use a different "un-compression" model than most other companies.
